Which permits do I need?
If you’re not sure, call the building inspector before you start. It’s quicker than taking something down.
You need a building permit for
- Decks, porches and ramps
- Fences over 4 feet tall
- Sheds and garages over 120 square feet
- New roofs (not repairs to a few shingles)
- Any new building or addition
- Swimming pools deeper than 24 inches
You don’t need a permit for
- Painting, siding repairs, new floors or new kitchen cabinets
- Fences 4 feet tall or lower
- Garden beds, patios at ground level and small sheds up to 120 square feet
How to apply
Fill in the building permit application and bring it to Village Hall with a simple drawing of what you’re building and where it goes on your lot. Most permits are approved within five working days. Fees start at $35.
Ray Okafor, building inspector, is at Village Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 555-0141.
Dog licenses
Every dog over five months old needs a license. Licenses run January 1 to December 31 and cost $10 for a spayed or neutered dog and $20 for other dogs. Bring proof of a current rabies shot.
